{{category}} ====Secret Cam Swap==== ~-[[Secret-Swap | J-Body Secret Cam Swap]] Camshafts The camshaft is an apparatus used in piston engines to operate valves. It consists of a cylindrical rod running the length of the cylinder bank with a number of oblong lobes or cams protruding from it, one for each valve. The cams force the valves open by pressing on a lifter, which actuates the valve, as the camshafts rotate. NOTE: When using new camshafts, one MUST use new lifters! Specifications Intake: 198 degrees @ .050" with .354" lift Exhaust: 187 degrees @ .050" with .346" lift Mantapart These cams have nearly the same specifications as the Secret Cams. Remember to use COD if you purchase these. Mantapart's shipping reputation is questionable. Specifications Intake: 198 degrees @ .050” with .360” lift Exhaust: 201 degrees @ .050” with .374” lift Quad 4 From the engine prior to the LD9 2.4L Twin Cam, the 2.3L Quad 4 had better camshafts providing better performance. Secret Cams The secret cam swap consists of taking the intake camshaft from the 1995 Quad 4, and the exhaust camshaft from the 1990-1994 LD2 "non" High Output Quad 4. These cams can be swapped out without any other modification. They can be purchased new in found used in the junkyard. Specifications Intake: 200 degrees @ .050" with .360" lift (GM Part Number: 24574239) Exhaust: 200 degrees @ .050" with .375" lift (GM Part Number: 22545390) High Output The High Output camshaft swap is derived from the "LGO High Output Quad 4." These cams deliver more performance than the secret cam swap. They have better lift and duration, but one must also swap out the camshaft housings for the 2.3L HO Quad 4 ones to utilize these. You must also use 35mm lifters with the Quad 4 camshaft housings. The reason the 2.4L Twin Cam housings will not work is that the camshafts are simply too large to spin past the 33mm lifter bores. Also, he HO cams do not have the hex to drive the power steering, thus the cam must be modified or you must delete the power steering all together. Specifications Intake: 212 degrees @ .050" with .410" lift Exhaust: 212 degrees @ .050" with .410" lift W41 These also require similar modifications as the High Output cams do to work in the LD9. Specifications Intake: 218 degrees @ .050" with .410" lift Exhaust: 218 degrees @ .050" with .410" lift J-Body Performance JBP offers two sets of camshafts for the LD9. They claim dyno proven results that their Stage 2 cams add an additional 22WHP. "JBP now has added roll-radius edges for beneficial lifter tolerance and balance durinig rotation of the bucket lifter. This machining technique which can only be performed by hand adds a perform edge that none of the large camshaft manufacturers perform due to a "quick in and out regrind" mentality that they follow. Also, if you notice the lobes are not shiny. A special treatment is added for anti-scuffing, a technique only available through JBP. Who knows the J-Body better than J-BodyPerformance?
